Today, we had a most interesting meeting with 5 presidents and secretaries of different refugee communities. This meeting was intense to say the least, but a positive outcome has resulted from it. We also had very humbling testimonies of 3 members that were victims of violence related to war crimes, political persecution and religious persecution. This evening was eye-opening experience toward not only the mental health needs of these members, but also the legal aid they need to gain their right to refugee status. Unfortunately, many (if not most) members have not been granted a refugee status due to the difficult legal landscape they face In Brazzaville; some not even being granted a refugee status for over 20 years.
